Reprise

Dates: 26 July – 28 August

The REPRISE exhibition is drawn from work presented as

part of Wayne Pearson's recent Ph.D. at Sydney College of the Arts; “Engaging the Glass . . . From its Stories to the Forms of our Desire”....

The exhibition is in two parts…

VOICES IN THE GLASS: Over 30 reverse painted, fired glass enamel portraits of people involved in Australian studio glass.

NEBULOUS LANDSCAPES - A series of cast crystal sculptures.

Nebulous Lanscapes

The exhibition presents an excellent opportunity to be able to appreciate this fine, outstanding body of work that revives a traditional glass technique rarely used in recent times.

Wayne interviewed over 35 artists and these portraits certainly capture the unique characters of many of his subjects.

Over the past two years, singular examples of some of these works have been on display in the Gallery at various times. However, to be surrounded by such a vast collection at one time is a memorable experience.

Wayne's portrait of Stephen Payne was hung in the recent Doug Moran Prize at the State Library; a reflection of the recognition he richly deserves.

The full complement of superb reverse painted on glass studies of notable names in the glass community will be on show until 28 August 2011.

Guiding Lights

Dates: 5th July to 24th July.

Rebecca Coote's new body of work is based on her intrigue for lighthouses with their architectural structure and the light itself, "representing one beautiful and structurally succinct package". Her exhibition of glass and steel sculptural lights follows residencies at four historic Tasmanian lighthouses and her work immortalises these imposing monoliths which symbolize protection, vigilance and caution to mariners.

Promoting Production

In May and June we are featuring fine works exemplifying the importance of ‘production’ for both design and aesthetic appeal.
